According to the news website Semafor, which has an early demo of the app, “Noosphere has an endless full-screen scroll that resembles TikTok, but also shows users text articles, audio, and photography.” CEO Jane Ferguson, a well-known former war correspondent for PBS, founded Noosphere after seeing a collapsing broadcast and digital media ecosystem and thousands of journalists out of work. She created the app to help journalists monetize their content while providing the public with an alternative to mainstream media.
Subscription for the app starts at $15 and goes up to $19.99 a month and revenue and will be shared among participating journalists. Ferguson has said that the next for Noosphere is collaborating with established news organizations. These partners could either leverage the platform to monetize their content or license videos from journalists on the platform.
