Cody Balmer arrested in Gov. Shapiro house fire case

At a news conference on Sunday, officials said Balmer scaled the perimeter fence and ignited a fire using a homemade incendiary device. The blaze caused significant damage to part of the residence. He will face multiple charges, including attempted murder, terrorism, attempted arson, and aggravated assault.
Governor Shapiro, his wife Lori, and their children were safely evacuated by Pennsylvania State Police after being awakened by officers. No injuries were reported. Authorities confirmed Balmer was apprehended shortly after the fire, still in the Harrisburg area. His motive remains under investigation.

Based on the posts on his Facebook page, Cody Balmer is not an ardent MAGA supporter. However, he had made several posts slamming former President Joe Biden and his policies. In a post from March 2, 2021, Balmer shared a poster of himself with the words “Biden owes me 2 Grand.” Another post on the same day slammed the high gas prices during Biden and said, “Im just sayin, Five dollars was gas money when Trump was president.”
A third post from September 7, 2021, criticized the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan with a meme.
