NEW LONDON, WI (WTAQ) — A New London dog rescue is looking for answers, and “likes”, after Facebook shut down it’s page.
The Facebook page for Our Pack Animal Rescue Inc. was shut down by an automatic algorithm after being falsely flagged for nudity and selling animal parts.
Corey Hetherington, a volunteer for the rescue, says the page was deleted in late January.
While previous posts were flagged in the past, the final straw was a picture of a dogs face, and nothing else.
“We requested that they [Facebook] review it [the flags], but about a week later they said ‘Nope, you’re done’, so we lost our Facebook page with 20,000 followers and the page we had for over five years,” said Hetherington.
The new Facebook page now only has about 3,000 likes. They’re working to rebuild their audience by including lots of tags in their posts, and encouraging others to “like” and “share”.
“Our dogs aren’t getting seen if people don’t see them on our Facebook page, that seems to be the place people go to look,” said Hetherington. “Adoptions are low, and the need is at an all-time high.”
Their new Facebook page is OPARI; as Facebook would not let them include the word ‘rescue’ in their name. Hetherington says they have not been able to reach anyone at Facebook for clarification as to why.
