JAY COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – A former Jay County Sheriff’s Department deputy will not serve jail time after admitting to using a Facebook page meant for investigations to harass a woman he once went on a date with.
Derek Bogenschutz, 37, pleaded guilty to identity deception. He was sentenced to a suspended 540-day sentence in the Jay County Security Center.
He will be placed on probation for the length of his sentence, per a plea agreement.
Bogenschutz was charged after an investigation found that he used a fake Facebook profile to harass a teacher at West Jay Elementary School, who he once took on a date, court records show.
He previously filled in as a part-time resource officer at the woman’s school.
The story continues below our previous coverage.
The former deputy contacted the teacher via the fake profile to claim her boyfriend, a Union City Police Department officer, was “playing” them both, court records show.
Bogenschutz also sent screenshots of conversations that appeared to be between the woman’s boyfriend and “Katie” arguing about him speaking to other women.
