LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. – Nearly 56,000 residents in Los Angeles and Ventura counties were under evacuation orders and warnings after the Hughes Fire in the Castaic area north of Santa Clarita exploded to over 10,000 acres.  The fire was first reported just before 10:55 a.m. on Lake Hughes Road near Castaic. MANHATTAN, IL — Manhattan police are investigating after a tobacco and vape shop was hit in a smash-and-grab burglary early Thursday. Police around 5:15 a.m. found a broken glass door at Southside Tobacco & Vape, 24520 S. Rte 52. Suspects in a dark-colored SUV used an unknown item to shatter the door, then stole merchandise including cartons of cigarettes once inside, police said.
