Staff who left Yellowknife’s Great Slave Animal hospital as the clinic closed on Friday have created a new Facebook page to help pet owners affected by the sudden shutdown.
Cabin Radio has confirmed the authenticity of the page, Aurora Veterinary Hospital YK, with Dr Katie Denroche.
Great Slave Animal Hospital, where veterinarian Dr Denroche previously worked, locked its doors at 12pm on Friday in a sudden and dramatic closure that appeared to be the result of a months-long deterioration in relations involving the clinic owner and staff.

Denroche and her team are expected to resume work at another location in the weeks ahead – that much had already been made public – but the precise details are not known.
On the new Facebook page, Denroche’s team wrote: “There is a lot of uncertainty right now, but we are here to support you and your pets.
“Rest assured, we are not going anywhere. Please message us here or at the email address listed on this page. There are a lot of really positive things coming. Please follow this page for further updates.”
Owners had been left scrambling for medication, supplies, records and even the cremated remains of pets as Great Slave Animal Hospital wound down its operations.
Anyone uncertain of how to proceed is encouraged by the new clinic’s staff to send a message with the details.
Denroche told Cabin Radio people with questions should get in touch but expect delays as the team is “triaging to the best of our ability and prioritizing emergencies.”
Dr Michelle Tuma, another Yellowknife-based veterinarian who works for a non-profit that cares for animals across the North, said she can offer her services to help ease the load on Denroche’s team and the Yellowknife Veterinary Clinic, which for the time being is the city’s sole fully functional clinic.
“I’m able to accommodate inquiries and appointments to help decrease the load on the Aurora team for the time being,” Dr Tuma said on Friday afternoon.
Pet owners can email Tuma for assistance.
