Dozens arrested in Philadelphia during Eagles Super Bowl celebrations

Celebrations along Philadelphia streets after the Eagles‘ Super Bowl win Sunday led to dozens of arrests, police said Monday.

After fans swarmed city streets to cheer, officers with the Philadelphia Police Department made at least 38 arrests on charges ranging from vandalism and disorderly conduct to aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

The most serious offenses related to Super Bowl celebrations included suspects assaulting police officers, police department spokesperson Miguel Torres told USA TODAY.

Photos show fires set near city hall, fans climbing on sanitation trucks and light poles, and some celebrators clashing with police along downtown streets.

Hours after the Eagles’ win, police ordered the crowd to disperse.

How many people were arrested in Philadelphia Super Bowl celebrations?

Police made the following Super Bowl-related arrests Sunday night, according to the Philadelphia Police Department:

Assault on police (felony): six arrests
Reckless endangerment of another person (felony): one arrest
Aggravated assault (felony): one arrest
Disorderly conduct (misdemeanor): one arrest

Officers issued disorderly conduct citations to 29 people, who were taken into custody and later released, a police spokesperson told USA TODAY.

USA TODAY has requested the identities of those arrested on felony charges.

Damage was sustained to four city garbage trucks and four businesses, including a Brooks Brothers store and a Chase Bank, the department said. USA TODAY has asked Philadelphia police if any arrests were made in connection to the damage.

In what marked the franchise’s second Super Bowl win in franchise history, the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

The team won its first Super Bowl in 2018 by beating the New England Patriots in Minneapolis.
