The cannabis industry has seriously taken off over the last 6 years since becoming legal in the state of Michigan. Before we knew it, there were dispensaries popping up on every corner and deals flying off the shelves left and right. Some people still don’t approve of the recreational use of marijuana but its the world we live in now.

Cannabis users all over the state began to rejoice as they were no longer looked at as these criminals but instead could enjoy one of their hobbies freely. Others were excited because the dispensary product was only safer but cheaper, for the most part. Sometimes you can find a good deal on the street or even run into some faulty product from a dispensary.
That’s exactly what has happened across the state of Michigan but it’s the vape users who have to worry. Michigan marijuana regulators recalled almost 16,000 THC vape cartridges for containing a banned ingredient. Warren-based RWB Michigan, a subsidiary of Red, White & Bloom, under its Platinum Vape brand name, tested positive for medium chain triglyceride, known as MCT oil.
MCT oil is commonly used in oral supplements and food products but when aerosolized and inhaled, it can cause respiratory health problems. Although MCT oil was already on the banned list due to the FDA banning it, testing officials were not looking for it and that’s why it slipped through the cracks.
The Cannabis Regulatory Agency received a tip that the cartridges were tainted with the banned substance. Once confirmed by multiple private labs the CRA identified nearly 14,000 cartridges that had already been sold. They were sent to over 100 retail stores and include the following flavors:
- garlic cookie
- blazing blue
- cheese
- banana candy
- grape valley kush
The CRA has blocked retailers from selling anymore of the product and RWB volunteered to recall their products. The MCT oil may not have been intentional as THC oil is often mixed with terpenes which could contain the banned oil. The list of the store locations and tracking numbers are available here.
Anyone who has experienced negative health effects that they believe may be a result of consuming the recalled vaping product is asked to report it to the CRA via it’s online submission form or by calling 517-284-8599. If you have the product and have consumed it, you are encouraged to return it to the place of purchase.
