BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Health concerns for students who are vaping are more prevalent than ever.
While the damage from vaping cannot be undone, there are ways to be proactive and take preventative measures forward.
Representative Robert Duvall of Bowling Green filed HB 187 to protect students against vaping.
The bill will establish the Vaping Settlement Trust Fund, which is being funded due to the multi-state settlement with Juul Labs Incorporation, where they will pay $14 million to the state.
The trust fund will provide students with resources and programs to help them stop and prevent vaping. These programs will encourage students to develop healthier lifestyles through better habits.
Duvall wants the bill and programs to extend as far as they can.
“I am concerned that we have 46% of high school students using vaping products versus only 36% nationally,” he said. ”Kentucky is near the bottom in health.”
The bill’s ultimate goal is to reduce that percentage and encourage students to make better choices about vaping.
