Republican Towamencin Township Supervisor Laura Smith, who is facing national and international backlash for her now-deleted viral TikTok video mimicking an alleged Nazi salute much like Elon Musk at the Presidential Inauguration, has resigned as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library.
On Saturday morning, the Board of Trustees posted an announcement to Facebook stating it has accepted Smith’s resignation, due to her conduct “that does not align with the library’s values.”
“The views expressed in the TikTok video are in direct conflict with the mission and principles upheld by the Montgomery County Public Library, its Board of Trustees, staff, and the community it serves,” said the Board of Trustees. “The library is a welcoming place of learning, dedicated to informing, educating, entertaining, and enriching the lives of all individuals.”
“We reject hate in all its forms and remain committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment for everyone,” said the Board.
Smith also sits on the board of the nonprofit Knights for Life. A message sent to fellow board member Todd Harper has not yet been returned by publication.
