CLEVELAND, Ohio — In the hybrid working and learning world brought on by the pandemic, online degrees have become another tool for students seeking an advanced education.
U.S. News & World Report released the 2025 rankings of online programs on Tuesday, with several Ohio programs making the list.
Online programs are eligible for inclusion when “the vast majority of required coursework for program completion is able to be completed by via distance education courses.” Limited in-person classes are allowable to be considered an online program.
Both bachelor programs and master’s in business administration programs are ranked by U.S. News, as well as specific school programs in business, criminal justice, education, engineering, information technology, and nursing.
Ohio State University topped the rankings for Ohio schools in half the categories – bachelor’s and graduate business, engineering and nursing programs.
The University of Cincinnati ranked as the top Ohio school in two graduate categories – criminal justice and information technology.
Xavier University ranked first in Ohio for MBA programs and the University of Mount Union ranked first in Ohio for graduate education programs.
U.S. News ranks programs based on several criteria. Course engagement and the chance to interact with professors and classmates are the most heavily weighted. Other criteria include faculty credentials and training, services and online learning technologies, and student performance.
