WASHINGTON – Officials are scheduled Saturday afternoon to provide updates to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
Officials from the National Special Security Event’s Joint Information Center are expected to provide updates, including the U.S. Secret Service, Metropolitan Police Department, National Parks Service and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
What we know:
Trump confirmed Friday that his second inauguration would be moved indoors due to the snow and cold temperatures.
Capital One Arena will be open on Monday for live viewing of his inauguration address. He took to social media platform Truth Social to share the news.
“We will open Capital One Arena on Monday for LIVE viewing of this Historic event, and to host the Presidential Parade. I will join the crowd at Capital One, after my Swearing In,” he shared.
“All other events will remain the same, including the Victory Rally at Capital One Arena, on Sunday at 3 P.M. (Doors open at 1 P.M.—Please arrive early!), and all three Inaugural Balls on Monday evening.”
Trump stated that he will make an appearance at Capital One Arena to host the presidential parade following his swearing-in ceremony.
Historically, each Member of Congress receives a limited number of tickets to the swearing-in ceremony to distribute to constituents.
Tickets to the ceremony are free and in high-demand. 220,000 tickets had been planned for distribution for attendees entering the Capitol Grounds.
Anyone who is interested in attending Inauguration Day should contact their Senators or Representative for information about acquiring tickets.
What we don’t know:
At this time, no information has been released about the timing for doors to open at Capital One Arena, Trump’s arrival, or who will be able to attend in person at Capitol One Arena, which seats 20,000– under a tenth of the amount of tickets planned for the event when it was set to be held outdoors.
Also unclear is whether those without tickets will be able to view from Jumbotrons at the National Mall as in years past.
Road closures and Metro station closures have also been unchanged since the announcement Friday. Six Metro stops were designated to be closed on January 20, but the move to Capital One Arena could mean other stations’ security is top of mind.
