The lawyer for a Queensland social media influencer, accused of torturing her baby daughter to boost her social media profile, has asked that she be held in protective custody because of concerns for her safety.
The 34-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the child, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today after her arrest in Logan on Thursday.
She was charged with several offences, including multiple counts of administering poison with intent to harm, and one count each of torture, making child exploitation material and fraud.
It is alleged between August and October last year, the woman gave her daughter, who had a medical condition, medications which were not prescribed to her and without medical approval.
She allegedly poisoned her daughter and recorded her physical and emotional suffering to elicit donations, and is accused of defrauding donors of $60,000 via crowdfunding.
This morning the court heard she intends to apply for bail later in the month.
Her lawyer Mathew Cuskelly asked for CCTV and another recording to be disclosed to him ahead of the application being heard.
He asked for his client to have access to protective custody because of the publicity around the arrest.
“I am concerned with regard to the safety of my client,” he said.

Magistrate Peter Saggers told the court she would be subject to an automatic assessment in relation to that by corrective services.
The woman was remanded in custody and will return to court in late January.
