A new trend has surfaced on the sports side of X, formerly Twitter, but its origin actually dates back a few years.
X users, especially sports fans, may be seeing an influx of recent posts accompanied with photos, asking them to “tap, hold and load in 4K.” What has been deemed a trend is really just a function of the platform in which X mobile users can tap and hold a photo on the platform and then download it to their devices in 4K resolution, if available.
One of the top viewed “tap, hold and load in 4K” posts was shared by FIFA World Cup on Tuesday. With more than 7.1 million views as of Wednesday afternoon, the post features a horizontal photo from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Argentina.
The Detroit Lions, PGA Tour and Futbol Club Barcelona have also hopped on the trend, encouraging their followers to tap, hold and download their shared photos in 4K.
Though the “tap, hold and load in 4K” feature is just growing in popularity, the feature was introduced in 2021. The X Support account made several posts in March 2021, informing users how they could share and download photos with a 4K resolution as part of a test for Android and iOS devices. The function is also available on the X mobile app.
How do you upload photos to X in 4K?
According to X Support, users interested in uploading 4K photos should follow these steps on mobile:
- In X Settings, click accessibility, display and languages
- Click data usage
- Change high-quality images and high-quality image uploads to allow for photos to be uploaded and downloaded in the highest quality
