A man was shot and killed in Newark on Tuesday, the second straight night with a fatal shooting in the state’s largest city.
Authorities have not identified the man, who was shot on the 300 block of Fairmount Avenue at around 6:15 p.m.
No arrests have been made as of Thursday afternoon, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.
On Monday night, a 45-year-old Irvington man was gunned down on the 100 block of Seymour Avenue about a mile from the shooting on Tuesday.
Newark recorded 35 homicides in 2024 as of Dec. 13 with 28 of them solved, 27 by arrest and one warrant issued, officials said.
The previous year there were 47 homicides in Newark.
