Maspero had been on the run for weeks. On March 4, San Antonio Police Department Officer Achor Bless was notified of a stolen black Kia Optima. He attempted to pull over the driver, Maspero, around Goliad Road and Southeast Military Drive.
Maspero refused to stop and drove away from the officer, according to an arrest affidavit written by an SAPD detective. The officer then began to pursue Maspero.
During the chase, Maspero “ran off the road multiple times, hit a curb and blew out the rear tire to the vehicle,” the detective wrote.
Maspero then lost control of the vehicle and spun out. When the officer began exiting his patrol car, Maspero drove toward him, according to the affidavit.

The officer “feared” Maspero would hit his patrol car and “possible cause serious bodily injury,” so he fired his gun at Maspero to stop him, the detective wrote. He was unsuccessful as Maspero fled from the scene,
The affidavit stated that Maspero abandoned the stolen vehicle at the Pecan Valley Golf Club apartment complex. Police did not find him.
Officers located the Kia Optima after witnesses at the apartment complex flagged them down and told them about a vehicle with “major damage” there.
A detective discovered the vehicle, which was processed for finger and palm prints, had been stolen about a week before the incident.

The detective found two social media accounts linked to Maspero, according to the affidavit. The accounts also confirmed his age.
The detective went undercover on social media to communicate with Maspero, who “admitted to being in a recent car chase where he had been shot at by the police on the East Side of San Antonio,” the affidavit stated.
Maspero told the detective details regarding the incident on March 4 that were not known by the public.
The detective stated that Maspero further identified himself when he sent the detective two videos of his face through a Facebook exchange. The videos matched the government photo of Maspero that SAPD obtained.
