LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WAFF) – Lauderdale County officers arrested seven people for selling THC vapes to minors, according to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office.
For several months, authorities said the Lauderdale County Drug Task Force (LCDTF) and the Lauderdale County District Attorney’s (DA) office have received several phone calls about minors using, abusing and overdosing while using reported THC vapes.
Authorities said these calls were from parents of school-aged children, government officials, school resource officers and others. LCDTF, along with the Florence Police Department, Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office and the DA’s office started an investigation into the distribution of these THC vapes to minors.
During the investigation, authorities found multiple controlled purchases of THC vapes were made from several gas stations and smoke shops in Lauderdale County. The purchased vapes were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences (ADFS). The reports from ADFS revealed that the THC vapes were a controlled substance.
Search warrants were executed at three locations on Friday and officers went to three additional locations to arrest individuals for allegedly selling the vapes to minors.
Officers and deputies went to the following locations with search and arrest warrants:
- Haddock’s One Stop, 11500 Hwy 20, Central
- Buckeye Smoke Shop, 4213 Huntsville Road, Florence
- Valero, 3506 Cloverdale Road, Florence
- King Vape, 2801 Mall Road, Florence
- Chevron, 4408 Hwy 157 Underwood-Petersville
- Florence Smoke Shop, 2520 Mall Road, Florence

The following people were arrested and charged in connection with allegedly selling vapes to minors:
- Akram Yahya Ghazali, 27, Florence. Ghazali was charged with Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance and Sell/distribute a Psychoactive Cannabinoids to Minors.
- Ahmad Abdulraqib Kaid, 22, Florence. Kaid was charged with Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance and Sell/distribute a Psychoactive Cannabinoids to Minors.
- Brooke Natasha Kelley, 43, Florence. Kelley was charged with Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance and Sell/distribute Psychoactive Cannabinoids to Minors.
- Omer Ahmed Saleh Aljalal. Aljalal was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.
- FNU (First Name Unavailable) Sunil, 26, Florence, AL. Sunil was charged with Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance and Sell/distribute Psychoactive Cannabinoids to Minors.
- Abdulsalam Qais Mohammed Qasem 39, Florence. Qasem was charged with Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance and Sell/distribute Psychoactive Cannabinoids to Minors.
- Autumn Rayne Meyers 22, Florence. Meyers was charged with Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance and Sell/distribute Psychoactive Cannabinoids to Minors.
Warrants were obtained and active for:
- Shaif Yahya Ghazali, 34, Florence. Ghazali has a warrant for two counts of Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance and two counts of Sell/distribute Psychoactive Cannabinoids to Minors.
During the search of the businesses, agents said they located more vapes containing controlled substances, a small amount of methamphetamine (ICE), drug paraphernalia, pipes used for smoking methamphetamine, a green leafy substance believed to be a controlled substance (Khat) and a large number of pills that require a prescription (Viagra).
