COLUMBUS, Ohio (WOIO) – In a press conference, Governor Mike DeWine discussed the issues Ohio farmers are facing due to the Bird Flu, and what the state is doing to help.
According to the State, 15.5 million birds had to be depopulated due to either positive testing or potential spreading of the Bird Flu.
73 “premises” were impacted by the Bird Flu, meaning the farmers will need to fully clean out each area before repopulating. As a result egg production at those locations could be stalled for five to six months.
The Governor said they are working with the federal government to get a vaccine for livestock to prevent the spread of the Bird Flu. There are also discussions to get compensation for farmers who have lost profits.
